Product Lifecycle Management can be thought of as a business approach dedicated to manage product information all along its lifecycle (beginning of life : design, manufacturing ; middle of life : distribution, use, support ; end of life : retire). However, observations of current practices reveal that PLM dedicated systems are mainly deployed to manage upstream phases of product lifecycle (design, industrialisation).
The aim of this session is to provide a forum for discussion of current research dedicated to extend PLM to downstream phases of product lifecycle to comprehensively cover usages of PLM in phases other than product development and more precisely to study articulations that PLM would have with other business approaches and industrial information systems deployed all along the product lifecycle. PLM approach is grounded in the philosophy of product knowledge capitalization and long term sustainability to conserve the know and know-how of the enterprise. It seeks to enhance stability or robustness of the enterprise work methods.
The main questions that this session addresses are :
How to deploy PLM in product lifecycle phases that imply more reactivity and agility ?
How can PLM be articulated with agile approaches such as Lean engineering and Lean manufacturing which are grounded in a different philosophy and timescale ?
How does PLM contribute in improving the added value of the company ?
How does PLM ensure managing a company’s products in the most effective way ?
We appreciate diversity in the underlying research methodologies and welcome papers along the entire Business approach-Information Technologies continuum.
